Diversity is not a Trend – Short Film
A short film in celebration of Canadian Multiculturalism Day.

BRIEF
We made this short to homage June 27th, Canadian Multiculturalism Day, in partnership with The Department of Canadian Heritage – in 2023.
First, we must acknowledge Indigenous people are the rightful owners of these lands. And we must expand what typically might be thought of as ‘diversity’ to include the many people of Canada who are thought to be different when we’re in fact all the same – languages, cultures, physicalities, sexualities, religions, beliefs, and ideas.
The film is currently hosted @modecanadarocks on Instagram and thus far has garnered over 33,440 impression on Instagram.
DELIVERABLES
On October 8, 1971, multiculturalism became an official policy of the Government of Canada. It was enshrined into law in 1988 as the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, making Canada the first country in the world to pass such a law.

While this policy was a step in the right direction, we must be mindful of the systemic racism that is part of Canada’s past and present. Recently, the remains of 215 Indigenous children were found at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School and the remains of hundreds of Indigenous children were found near the former Marieval (Cowessess) Residential School in Saskatchewan.
