Canadian Fashion Takes the Spotlight at the THEN NOW NEW Retrospective at Yorkville Village
THEN NOW NEXT engages visitors with more than 100 pieces of archival history, through couture to the future of fashion. From Karsh to Scaasi, Evangelista to Beker – the exhibit stitches together a multimedia tapestry of our iconic forerunners and emerging futurists, to frame Canada’s impact on the international style scene spanning the last fifteen decades. THEN NOW NEXT is opened to the public on September 13 and runs until November 10 — on weekdays and Saturdays from 10:30 am-7:00 pm and on Sundays from 11:00 am-5:00 pm — at Yorkville Village, 87 Avenue Road in downtown Toronto. Directed by veteran fashion authority, Iris Simpson, curated by Fashion History Museum and designed by international events specialist, Jeffry Roick of McNabb Roick, the exhibit affords Canadians of all ages an opportunity to honor and share Canada’s legacy, import and influence on fashion.

Canada’s impressive roster of creators, contributors and range of output extends well beyond design into all areas of fashion and lifestyle production and promotion,” explained Len D. Henry, creator of MODECANADA150 and founder of Delectant Media. “This is Canada’s year, and on September 13 fashion comes home. Our actors and musicians have been doing it for a while. Now it’s time for fashion to stand up and be counted amongst our stellar exports.”
“Yorkville Village is proud to sponsor the THEN NOW NEXT exhibit. We are honoured to support the Canadian fashion, style and design communities, while underscoring their many valued contributions which have landed us on the world map,” said Gregory Menzies, executive vice president at First Capital Realty and project lead for Yorkville Village. “The retrospective is the perfect fit for our brand and a superb way to celebrate Canada’s contribution to the world of style.”

THEN NOW NEXT is part of MODECANADA150, a calendar of high-visibility events designed to promote Canada’s brightest stars and programmed to bolster and grow Canada’s fashion industry, nationally and globally. MODECANADA150 actively connects Canadians with our iconic stars and introduces us to diverse young entrepreneurs exploring new norms, techniques and technologies.
The Toronto Fashion Incubator (TFI) — marking its 30th year of mentoring and promoting young fashion entrepreneurs — is the initiative’s exclusive not-for-profit beneficiary. TFI will apply proceeds toward micro grants to subsidize onsite residencies, amplify membership outreach and benefits nationally.
